Our dependance on fossil fuels for energy makes us all responsible for the CO2
emissions that are causing Global Warming. It has been estimated that the average
developed world citizen produces approximately 10 tons (9000 kilos) of CO2 each and
every year, year after year. The bad news is that Earth’s natural systems absorb less
than one-third of human-linked CO2 emissions. Unless something is done, this will
have disastrous consequences for the climate that sustains our lives.
Please REDUCE/REUSE/RECYCLE.
Then, please make a contribution to our organization, NOFOOTPRINT,
so that we can take action to offset all or part of your CO2 footprint.
Reduce what you can and offset the rest.
We aggregate moneys contributed to NOFOOTPRINT and will use these funds in Costa Rica
to either plant trees through reforestation or save forests from destruction with our partner,
Fundacion Neotrópica (www.neotropica.org). Fundacion Neotrópica is a local
non-governmental, non-profit organization located in Costa Rica and has been
dedicated to the protection of nature for more than 20 years. Fundación Neotrópica has committed to us that they will use 100% of the funds that we transfer to them in Costa Rica
for either reforestation and forest restoration projects or forest protection, therefore
furthering our mission to create a permanent sequestration for CO2 emissions.
What we do, in essence, is create an economically effective, efficient and verifiable way for you to offset your CO2 footprint, thereby helping to stop Global Warming.
Trees are the lungs of the world. It has been estimated that 1 tree planted or saved
from logging in the Central American forests can absorb up to 1 ton (900 kilos) of CO2
during an approximate 20 year period. Deforestation, in and of itself, constitutes about 20
percent of all CO2 emissions because destroying trees releases the CO2 that they have
stored. So, both planting trees and saving trees from destruction reduces total CO2 levels.
You can calculate your approximate yearly CO2 output by using our CO2 Calculator.
The CO2 Calculator will also tell you the number of trees required to offset your CO2 footprint
and the monetary contribution to do so. You may then make a USD$ contribution to
NOFOOTPRINT to offset all or part of your personal CO2 output. You can also Make a
Contribution of any amount without using the CO2 Calculator. Any amount helps! We will
send you a confirmation of the use of your contribution to directly offset your CO2 output.
We will not send certificates, bumper stickers, etc. because doing so is inconsistent with our
philosophy of reducing unessential waste.
